I hope everyone is having an amazing quarter! Here is what's on this week's newsletter:
Meeting
There is a meeting this week on Thursday, May 2nd. It will be held at the Cervantes and Velasquez Conference Room (on the 3rd floor of the Baytree Bookstore) from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. A Kaplan representative will be giving a presentation about KAPLAN’s course to help prepare students for the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). Everyone interested in going to dental needs to take this test, so come to the meeting to learn more about how to prepare for it! There might be a special raffle at the end too!!!
Shirts & Binders
If you paid member dues and have not received your PDS t-shirt and binder, please email the gmail account with your name and t-shirt size. These will be available for you to pick up at the first general meeting.
Volunteering Events
CDA Cares Free Dental Clinic: Saturday May 18 & Sunday May 19th at the San Jose Convention Center.
Tabling in the Quarry: Date TBA (next week)
Motivation Conference (MC): a 2 1/2-day non-yield outreach program (Friday May 24-Sunday May 26th) that targets underprivileged Asian American/ Pacific Islander (AA/PI) high school students from under resourced and under represented communities. This non-yield outreach program is a student-ran, student-led program that outreaches to students who have not been accepted to the university. MC targets AA/PI high school students who have not thought about higher education as an option, or do not feel that higher education is a space for them.

- PDS tables every quarter to promote good dental hygiene by handing out FREE toothpaste, toothbrushes, and floss to the UCSC community. Look out for more information in the next newsletter!
- MC is looking for general volunteers to help out during the 2 ½ day conference. There are a multitude of volunteer opportunities through this event- if you wish you interact with the students themselves you have the opportunity to do so; if you’d rather do some ‘behind the scenes’ work (food deliver and service, planning committee, poster making, etc) you may choose to do so!

- 6th Annual Impressions Undergraduate Dental Outreach Conference at the University of California, San Francisco in Saturday, May 4th from 8:00am-5:30pm THIS WEEKEND!
- Collaboration between the Student National Dental Association (SNDA), the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the Hispanic Dental Student Association (HDSA) Chapters at UCSF. The purpose of the Impressions Conference is to expose and excite undergraduate students from diverse/underrepresented backgrounds and/or underserved communities in the Bay Area about dentistry and to provide information about applying to dental school.

Welcome to Spring 2013
Hello Pre-Dents!
Welcome to Spring Quarter! I hope you all had a wonderful spring break and first week of school. There are a lot of pre-dental events scheduled for this quarter, so there is a lot of look forward to! In the mean time, here is what is included in this week’s news letter:
First Meeting of the Quarter
The first meeting will be happening on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 7:00PM-8:00PM. Currently the location is unknown so I'll update you guys on that ASAP! At this meeting we will be discuss specific information about officer elections as well as answering any specific questions you all might have. Carpool lists will be made available and passed around for upcoming conferences and events, and we will be doing a fun manual dexterity exercise. In mentoring groups we plan to discuss and answer any questions about past and future summer plans, which include summer classes, volunteering programs, pre-dental programs, etc.

The event will include information about the various roles that dentists have, career specialization, how to prepare yourself for admission to DDS program at UCSF, and hands on activities lead by current dental students.

Hello again PDS!
It is week 7 already, hope everyone is doing well on midterms and are staying warm and healthy! Thank you for everyone who helped table last week. We hope you guys had as much fun as we did.

· Community Aid & Recourses (CARe) Full-Scale Clinic: Saturday, March 2, 2013 11:00AM-2:00PM @ the Homeless Serves Center
· About CARe: A student-run free clinic and volunteer organization in Santa Cruz county that provides health services and advocacy for the underprivileged people of Santa Cruz.
· PDS will have a table at this event where we will be giving free toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and local resource information to the homeless. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the Santa Cruz community!
· UCSC Stewardship Program: Volunteers for Ecological Restoration
· Sunday, February 24th 11:00AM-2:00PM: Meet at the Recital Hall Loading Dock to help remove exotic/invasive plant species from campus grounds and learn about the native plant and animal communities on campus!

Sorry for not updating this in so long. I hope everyone is having a wonderful beginning to their Winter quarter.
Thank you to everyone who showed up to the meeting last Monday. I hope it was informative! Our next meeting will announced soon, expect it to be sometime next week.
If anyone is interested in attending our board meeting, we will be holding a meeting tonight, Tuesday, January 22nd at 6:30 at the J Baskin lounge. Come hang out with the officers to help plan future events and meetings! It is a great opportunity for those of you who want to be more involved or are looking to be future officers to see what it's all about!

The 6th annual Impressions Undergraduate Dental Outreach Conference at the University of California, San Francisco in April 2013 from 8:00am-5:30pm. It is a collaboration between the Student National Dental Association (SNDA), the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the Hispanic Dental Student Association (HDSA) Chapters at UCSF. The purpose of the Impressions Conference is to expose and excite undergraduate students from diverse/underrepresented backgrounds and/or underserved communities in the Bay Area about dentistry and to provide information about applying to dental school.

UoP Pride Day (Same day as SoCal Dental Information Day)
A day long event at the University of the Pacific Dental school in San Francisco, CA. April 20, 2013 from 9:00AM-3:30PM. This event is for prospective students and their families to learn more about the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and its curriculum. Lunch with the dean and current students will be provided as well as tours of the school and some hands on demonstrations.

SoCal Dental Information Day 2013: Sponsored by UCSF Dental School. On Saturday, April 20th at The Grand- Long Beach Event Center (Longbeach, CA). This will be a great opportunity to network with current dental students, faculty, and admissions representatives from UCSF! The event will include information about the various roles that dentists have, career specialization, how to prepare yourself for admission to DDS program at UCSF, and hands on activities lead by current dental students.

Inside UCSF: April 26-April 27 This exciting and informative two-day program offers a chance for prospective students to become inspired about pursuing a health sciences career at UCSF. The program, including meals and travel, is offered at no cost (FREE!!!) to selected applicants. An unforgettable experience!
